Last month, over 40 police planners from across the province met in Barrie to discuss Best Practices in a Changing Environment. Our keynote speaker, Deputy Minister Matt Torigian, spoke to the changes being brought in under Bill 175 and fielded questions about the new legislation.
As he discussed how the environment of policing will change under this new Act, he stated that “never before has the work of police planning been as important.” Police Services will need to be evidence based, programs will require formal evaluation, and police service boards will be more accountable. The great questions that conference attendees asked of the Deputy Minister and all of the speakers at the Symposium, the discussions at the breakout sessions and the engagement of everyone throughout the Symposium is proof that the OALEP members are ready for the challenges that will come with Bill 175.
All presentations from the conference, breakout session notes, photos, and other conference resources are all available on our website here. If you have any questions about the Symposium, do not hesitate to get in touch with any of OALEP’s executive board members.
